Keeping your Iridium GO!® 9560 firmware current helps ensure reliable operation and compatibility with Iridium network changes. This post shows you where to get the latest official firmware and how to upgrade your device safely.
1) Get the latest firmware (official Iridium download)
To download the current Iridium GO! firmware directly from Iridium, use this page:
https://ifp.iridium.com/go-firmware/
That’s the best place to bookmark—when Iridium publishes new versions, they’ll appear there first.
Tip: Save the firmware file somewhere easy to find (like your Desktop or Downloads folder).
2) What’s new in Firmware v2.3.1
Firmware 2.3.1 includes an important improvement:
- Improved date/time update behavior on the Iridium GO! device and Iridium GO! app related to the Iridium “Re-epoch” scheduled for Jan 2026. (From the 2.3.1 release notes.)
Known limitations noted by Iridium
- Dialing an emergency number during an SOS call may override the SOS call.
- On some devices with hardware Rev5, GNSS accuracy can vary depending on tracking interval (Iridium provides ranges in the release notes).
3) Before you start (compatibility + prep)
Iridium notes the GO! firmware portal has been tested using common browsers (Firefox, Internet Explorer 11, Edge, Chrome, Safari) on Windows 7 SP1 x64 or newer.
What you’ll need
- A laptop/PC with Wi-Fi
- A web browser
- Your Iridium GO! 9560 powered on
- Battery charging is highly recommended during the upgrade
4) Step-by-step: How to upgrade Iridium GO! 9560 firmware
Iridium’s upgrade instructions apply for upgrading from firmware 1.0.66 or later.
Step 1 — Download the firmware
- Go to https://ifp.iridium.com/go-firmware/
- Download the latest firmware file and save it to your computer (Desktop is easiest).
Step 2 — Power on the Iridium GO!
- Raise the antenna upright
- Wait for the unit to power up and begin registration (about 1 minute).
Step 3 — Plug in power (strongly recommended)
- Open the USB cover
- Connect the USB cable to a charger (AC or car charger).
Step 4 — Check your current firmware version (optional but recommended)
On the Iridium GO! device:
- Press the left or right navigation button to bring up the menu
- Press NEXT until you see INFORMATION
- Press SELECT
- Note the SSID number
- Press NEXT to display the firmware version.
Step 5 — Connect your computer to the Iridium GO! Wi-Fi
- On your laptop, find the GO! Wi-Fi network using the SSID you noted above
- Connect to it (no Wi-Fi password is required)
- Open your browser and go to: http://192.168.0.1
- Log in with the admin account (default):
- Username: guest
- Password: guest
Step 6 — Upload and install the firmware in the Advanced Features Portal
- If an SOS warning pop-up appears (not configured), click OK to continue
- Go to the SYSTEM tab
- Click Choose File and select the firmware file you downloaded
- Click Upgrade to begin
Important notes from Iridium:
- Some browsers may show the progress bar jump to 100% quickly—this does not mean it’s finished.
- The upgrade typically takes 10–15 minutes. Do not navigate away from the page during the upgrade.
- After completion, the device will restart automatically (about 2 minutes).
Step 7 — Confirm the new firmware installed
Repeat Step 4 and verify the firmware now shows 2.3.1.
5) Important caution about downgrading (hardware revision note)
Iridium notes: devices with hardware revision 5A should never be downgraded. If a downgrade happens by mistake, you should contact your service provider for assistance.
